My Story
I was a surgeon in Michigan for over 25 years, starting with trauma and general surgery before transitioning to only breast surgery. In those early years, things were very fast-paced and adrenaline-driven. In spite of that, I always appreciated the importance of developing a rapport with the trauma patients and their families to enhance healing and recovery. When I concentrated on just breast surgery, I had the ability to schedule more time for each patient and to truly understand them and their family. I had the honor of caring for three generations of women from the same family all carrying the BRCA gene. I had patients returning annually for up to 16 years for reassurance and reconnecting. The patients appreciated the personalized treatment and compassionate care. It became evident that a patient's success was not only in having a doctor with great surgical ability but also in having a doctor who empathizes, educates, and empowers women.
When I moved to Arizona a year ago, I seriously contemplated retirement but I realized my true passion to help breast cancer patients was still very eminent. My previous patients, many of whom have now become my friends, remark on how they valued having me as their go-to person being patient to hear their story, knowledgable to answer their questions, and sensitive to respect their vulnerabilities. I began Pink Ribbon Consulting because it offered me a platform to continue my passion - to assist women in their breast cancer journey by providing emotional and motivational support, treatment navigation, lifestyle instruction, and coping skills development. I want my clients to know that they are not alone in this fight!
